‘How To Finish Everything You Start’ is a self-help book written by Sociologist and Productivity expert Jan Yager. This book is a guide for completing projects without losing steam in between. The author talks about various factors and presents mindset hacks which will help to follow through on the goal, tasks or habits. The book initially analyses the reasons behind leaving things unfinished and then talks about the curative part. It also talks about the good practices that are being used in various fields.

Highlights:

# The word FINISH itself can be a mnemonic for what you need to do for inculcating the habit of finishing things you start.

F- Focus on one priority task

I- Ignore interruptions or distractions

N- Now is the time, not later or tomorrow

I- Initiate and innovate so that you can keep going

S- Stay on the course however tough it gets

H- Hail finishing by celebrating your accomplishment

# Find a great place to stop for the day. If you finish at a good point at any juncture, it will be easy to pick up again whenever you restart.

#Normally we are unprepared for interruptions and therefore if any interruption comes up, it derails our efforts. This is a big reason why we fail to finish.

# Delegation is very important yet underrated. If you try to do anything and everything yourself, you are bound to have a lot of unfinished activities or projects. Delegate activities that are not demanding high skills or which can be automated or outsourced.

#Workload management is important. Most common reason for not being able to finish things is having too much to do.

#You need to mark the things which need to be finished and which need not. There might be some things which are unproductive and it’s the best to leave them unfinished. Identify such things and get them off your list.

#Innovation will help you finish the things. It can be some new technology or an improvisation in existing technique that can help you finish the project in a faster, better way.

# Fear is bad. Fear of failure will make you delay things because you would want to avoid negative feedback at any cost. Fear of success will make you procrastinate.

#Eat the frog. Mark out what is the most difficult or disliked thing that you have to do, and do it as the first thing in the morning.
